Ryogoku nabemono @ Edosawa!

Our last night in Tokyo (must have been a couple weeks ago already TT___TT), Auntie brought us to a nabemono place in Ryogoku (sumo wrestler town). Big sister Cheirie caught a cold and stayed in with a fever so she didn't get to experience the yummy food. ;-; oh my dear sister. We also went into Roppongi Hills for a stroll and there was a GREAT~ taiyaki place right above the station (photos later =o= for now, just Ryogoku). Mum and auntie later shopped in Shinjuku where mom landed a deal on an LV.

On right is my Auntie. She handles cheap room and board for girls travelling to Tokyo. Contact me for information! She can speak Japanese, Cantonese and Mandarin.
Anyway~ we went to Edosawa for nabemono, meal for CHAMPIONS~~! Edosawa is a fairly popular place at night especially for business men (it seems!) They have at least two locations in Ryogoku.

Four portions of seafood including SQUID and SCALLOPS mm, favorite :)

Of course nothing beats the mochi kinchaku. You can find mochi kinchaku in the conbini oden but it it not offered in a single restaurant in S.F. Bay Area. There is, however, one izakaya in LA that serves it. Mochi kinchaku is really good because it doesn't soak up soup like tofu so it won't burn your tongue and warm mochi is heaven. It's why I usually really like tong yuan during the winter. :)

Oh yes, and they also had sumo style dessert. So cute~! We were too full so we didn't order it...although we should have :(

Ah, at the end of dinner, there was an infamous struggle for the check between my mother and auntie. Being Chinese is so comical in the way we always fight for the check. If only I had thought to pay for dinner when I went to the bathroom. It was an after thought. My sister, Marie pushed me to get up and get the tab so even though I had already gone to the bathroom I tried to excuse myself saying "...chotto toirei..." but auntie was like "TOI MEH REI AH!"
I mean to point out the cultural clash here with my auntie! She used a Chinese exclamation between the syllables of a Japanese word! I don't know when I'll come across that again so this tiny memory is special to me.

Well, more food posts for Tokyo later.

edit: oops the last two photos were poorly cropped due to idiocy. :D I'll fix it later.

ox tongue place in tokyo

It has been difficult to find tasty food in Tokyo that isn't fried. I love fried food in Japan~! Sadly, I found that a lot of franchised places were tastier than some mom&pop stores. Mum prefers to not eat fried food since there's too much heat from it and she's right~! After we ate okonomiyaki, I got a sore throat. Fried food here is really delicious though ;___;

Today we went down to Tokyo Station to buy souvenirs but we failed. It's not that Tokyo Station does not offer a wide array of gift options--oh, they do. We justttttttt...were not interested in any of them. Perhaps Japanese confectioneries are just over adorned? We might get some more baum kuchen though, yum.

Baum kuchen and macarons seem to be really popular sweets right now..but I digress.

So! We were going to go to Marunoichi building but we ran into this place at Kitchen Avenue!

We bought two ox tongue sets and a salad (not pictured cause it was blurry~)

It was served with barley rice. Nice, small change of pace.

We had the choice between salted ox tongue and ox tongue with house sauce..we ordered both. Yum.

Soup came with the set. Very softtttttttt ox tongue in chicken broth.

I was excited when I saw this up close. Minced ox tongue over tofu!!

So happy that we finally found a unique place to eat! :)

tokyo~~~ 2011 :)

oops long time no blog!

I'm in Tokyo! Hooray! This will just be a loot post. Above is a Bleu Bleuet wallet I bought in Ikebukuro's Sunshine City! We were going to see the observatory too but my family is not interested in that sort of thing, it seems.

This shirt is from 3/4 three quarter from Harajuku. Finally~~~ I plain white shirt with cute details! Three Quarter is near the EastPak store around one of the corners from the Omotesando near the Bvlgari building (by mvrdv)..Uh, anyway this store is around Eastpak where my sister Marie was very happy to finally pick up two messenger bags that were no longer imported to the States. Sister, Cheirie also found something from 3/4~! It so happened to also be made by Bleu Bleuet!

Of course, we totally hit the UFO catchers. Just my opinion, the ones in Ueno are the better ones. I'm addicted, what can I say?

I hope to make some cute little girls I LOVE happy :)

This was some reallyyyyyyy good spicy miso broth. The ramen was alright and I can't remember what the pork tasted like...

More well organized and well thought out posts later @_@ I think we're going to Roppongi today? Tokyo station to get sweets? Asakusa to revisit some yummy green tea ice cream? I forget. Toodles~!
