Also, I know these are a little underexposed! I didn't have a tripod with me so the 2nd best thing is me holding really still, right? ^^;

Nishiyama Sweets in Asakusa

Our second visit to Asakusa had a purpose. The first time, Auntie took us from Akiba and we enjoyed the nightlife (carnival fried foods and sweets) Sunday night

We returned to Asakusa for one reason: Nishiyama Sweets! Located very close to Kaminarimon. Just cross the street and turn left and you will see a small shop serving very good green tea ice cream with rice crackers and sweet red bean.

Though they also serve sweet anpan with hot tea. Oolong? It certainly was not green :)

We also ordered the 2 scoop ice cream set with mochi, tangerine, rice crackers and a scoops of red bean served with tea.

I really recommend getting the oshiruko too :)

Yes, we ordered a lot for three people but how often will we be in Tokyo? There is nothing comparable to Nishiyama Sweets in S.F.~! Where can I find a homemade icecream shop that serves just vanilla, green tea and red bean ice cream with rice crackers and mochi?????? WHERE???????????

Well, maybe I'll give Kissako Tea's dango in Japantown a shot. I don't think they have green tea ice cream though! :P

Asakusa&Kibidango

Decided to blog in reaction to my guilt+laziness. It's almost nearing a month since my stay in Tokyo and I still have not talked about all the yummy places we went :)

Oh man did we get lost. I made the grave error of getting off at Asakusa bashi! Of course we only had to walk for about 5 minutes before arriving at the tourist spot but it's nerve racking getting lost in a city you barely know. There seems to be some wholesale places around Asakusa. Sometimes it's difficult to navigate. I didn't know how to get to Asakusa line or..the Tsubasa line (I think) from where we were so we took something else and ended up at Asakusa bashi station and not Asakusa.

Mom and Cheirie at Kaminarimon (Thunder Gate)!

This is Kibidango! The very same dango shop Sakura and LilB took us my first trip to Asakusa two summers ago. During the summer they serve Matcha green tea but in the winter, they have warm Amazake! I was so happy :) I wanted to try amazake since Ryuu was craving it during that New Years Eve episode in Kimi Ni Todoke. This amazake was better than my first experience. For me, it had a light sake taste and was slightly sweet :)

The kibidango was 300 yen for 5 skewers of dango.

Oh! This spot has become a "must go to place" when I'm in Tokyo! Oooh, I'm really happy.
I wish I took time to take nicer photos--oh well! :p
